Typical issues are handling 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio correctly when streaming. DV-AVI Video Files: These are standard DV Camcorder footage in an AVI container and while very common few AV Devices will play them without on the fly transcoding. This is a typical problem as the audio steam needs to be transcoded even if the container is supported. MPEG2/DTS Streams in MPG Container: File would play but no sound. Video: Still no Conversion Options so I'm not expecting these will work yet but here is a couple of test cases to consider: Settings were "Convert audio if necessary" & "Uncompressed WAV" (need to test "Convert Always") WMA Lossless Audio (and I presume FLAC) Files: The file would play but all I would hear is static. I have three test cases from transcoding to a format that the PS3 can play.Īudio: These have work before and I'm sure are find but: When selecting the MC server you should then see the folders IN EITHER Audio, Images, Video as appropriate BUT you actually see the top level folders of Audio, Images, and Video (and while you can navigate the structure of all three only the content of the relevant type is shown)Ĥa) Playing Content (supported file type): Seems fine, streamed and played Video, Audio, Pic content just perfectly!Ĥb) Playing Content (transcoding required): This is the big one for me and what a quality UPnP/DLNA server such as TVersity / PS3Server does so well. To play music/movies trough its Playstation 3 MediaServer.I've been begging for this one for years so I'm pretty excited to see that it is getting some attention! Here is my quick feedback from the 5mins I got to test while my son was trying to play COD5.ġ) PS3 Recognition: Big improvement - set the MC UPnP server to Options to "Automatic" and guess what - it just worked! Well done!Ģ) Presentation in the PS3: OK you need to get the MC Icon appearing in the PS3 (everyone else does) as yours is just the default "grey device".ģ) Browsing in the PS3: In the PS3 you navigate to the Audio, Images, and Video section in the CrossBar then select your UPnP/DLNA server. I hope this will remove most of the problems for any Linux user trying I did this to all the folders that i have shared,Īnd i made sure i had the "Folder" itself fully shared as well. This means that you give all access rights to the files you are willing to share towards your PS3. When you are in the sharing folder, now type: " chmod 775 *" (in my case that would have been "cd /home/username/Music/")Īs you can see, if i am correct, the writing / sharing / reading rights for certain files will cause this error. Go to the terminal and head into the folder that you have shared. I take it that this problem 9/10 times happens on Linux.īased on that i have been searching and analyzing. Or similar error with the DLNA protocol error. I did found the solution for that, and perhaps this will remove any other I recently received the error: " DLNA protocol error (2101)". So if anyone knows how the refreshing process with the DIR 685 could be accelerated. Still quite annoying that D-link does not provide what they advertise. In the end I found out that its easier to copy the whole picture and music stuff onto a simple USB drive. So in the end, I could avoid the 2114 error when chosing small folders, refreshing completey and not chosing a root directory. Oos, sorry, I should have posted it in the DIR-685 section but the firmware - and the error for sure - is probably the same. Result on the PS3: DLNA protocol error 2114. The firmware is so buggy that it will log you out before the refreshing finishes. I found out that everything works out fine then.īUT: when I chose my whole music and pictures folders (about 60 gig, including HD videos), the DIR-685 will not finish refreshing. Wait until the DIR-685 finishes refreshing, then let the PS3 search for new media servers. Try a chosing very small folder (not root or the HDD, but a subdirectory) with a dozen pictures or songs in it as streaming sorce and press "refresh". Whatever, the main problem seems to be that the DIR-685 is painstakingly slow in refreshing the media content. I spent A LOT of time fiddling around with the settings, getting increasingly frustrated about the gap between advertising an realitiy concerning DLNA. Hi there, I´m having the same DLNA error message using a PS3 (fw version 3,42 by now) and a DLink DIR-685 (fw 2.0ww).
